A lesson

What happens in a lesson

  1. 01

Step 1: Breathe and warm up

The first few minutes are easy breaths and gentle sounds, and then a song the student already knows.

  2. 02

Step 2: Work on one song

The teacher picks one thing to build: a phrase, a breath or a part to hold against another voice.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Plan the week

The lesson ends with the song sung through, and a short plan for practice at home.

At home

A folder, a pencil and a glass of water

A voice needs no instrument, and a lesson needs very little. Bring a folder for the songs your teacher gives you and a pencil to mark the breaths.

Ask your teacher before you buy a keyboard or a book of songs. Singing a little most days helps more than one long session on the weekend, and a glass of water nearby is enough to begin.

Not sure which lesson to start with?

A placement visit is the way to find out. A teacher listens, you talk, and we match you.
